The second Red Lion Charity Golf Day of the year was held last week at Bletchingley Golf Club. 54 able men and women convened for another eventful round of golf and a few refreshments afterwards. The weather was set fine but there was a cool northly breeze which meant that there weren’t many pairs of shorts to be seen. One player was so keen that he turned up a full week ahead of the actual golf day !!
The format was familiar to those who had played before, with individual competitions’ and a team competition which involved the use of a “Golden Ball” which all team members played with in rotation. So much was the desire to retain the Golden Ball that some would go to extraordinary lengths to recover it from a watery grave !!
Two holes were designated for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive.
After the golf everybody went back to the Red Lion for a hearty late lunch and a few beers (a few too many for the author!!)
The overall team prize was collected Simon Hawkins, Mark Fuller, Martin Shaw and Michael Harvie. A formidable team who improved from joint 3rd place in the last golf day held in May.
The Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin competitions were both won by Luke Barker and the Ladies longest Drive was won by Deidre Thompson. Congratulations to you both.
After a mistake by the organiser (Sorry!!), there was some changes to the results of the individual competition after the announcements. 3 players were tied on 35 points, not 2 as previously thought. So here are the correct results:-
1st Place – 35 points (18 on back 9 holes)
2nd Place – 35 points (14 on back 9 holes)
3rd Place – 35 points (13 on back 9 holes)
Most importantly, over £375 was raised for the SSAFA charity which is the Red Lions chosen charity so congratulations to all the winners and well done to all the players for your continued support !!
Look out for a save the day notification of the next golf day which will be towards the end of May 2017
